No, Matt, it's not...and in fact, it's entirely beyond me. I have so
many duplicates in my collection it's absolutely sad.

Fact for me, though, is that I -rarely- listen to commentaries, just as
I rarely watch special features. I just never get around to it. I think
the one and only commentary track I've ever listened to all the way
through was *Scars of Dracula*, and that's out of at least 300 DVDs.

Sorry to hear the DVD's so badly butchered, guys...I honestly didn't
realize the fact when I recommended it. Perhaps my old VHS was also
edited, because I haven't been aware of any significant differences.

In any event, I'll take this DVD over the muddy, jumpy, nearly
unwatchable extended play tape I used to have. I'm no fan of censorship
either, but you gotta admit the DVD's a feast for the eyeballs.

Does the R2 release of F&tMfH have an audio commentary track on it? I
read that Paramount recorded commentaries for both it and "Captain
Kronos" last year. Does anyone know if the commentaries are on the R2
releases of these films?

thanks,
Mike.

Yes, it is annoying. Considering the print on the television version is
there in all it's glory!. THe compensation is that the quality of DVD
is better than video.

The VHS version of Taste The Blood Of Dracula was (reportedly) so badly
cut (Dracual appearing at the scene of each death)that I didn't buy it
and rely on the BBC broadcast version (which is I thgink in it's
entirety).

I also find the official BBFC site quite interesting when it comes to
Hammer films. You can see at a glance the various changes in
certificate through the years (Revenge of Frankenstein a 15 on VHS but
now a 12 on DVD!).

I have included a link here if anyone is interested (although it
appears to be 'down' at the moment!)

Sorry to say the 'clamping' scene is not in the R2 release. If you have
seen the film previously then the missing (albeit less than a minute)
segment is noticable.

I'm sure the broken bottle scene has also been trimmed but I'd have to
check my VHS from televison copy to confirm that.

Nevertheless it's good to see more and more Hammer DVD's coming onto
the UK market

The commentaries are'nt on the R2 release . It's a different company
that owns the rights to both films in the UK . I'll wait till the R1
release as I'm getting sick of buying the same film more than once .
I just did it again with the special edition of The Texas Chainsaw
Massacre . It pays to be patient .......... but it's not easy:rolleyes:

Agreed it's always good to see Hammer movies reach dvd but this is the
first time a cut version has been presented .
You're absolutely right in stating that the bottle scene has been
trimmed ........ it has . Also the scene where Frankenstein puts the
eye in the socket of the monster is missing a close up shot not to
mention the " missing " vein clamping scene .
What really annoys me is the claim on the box that this is the original
uncut British theatrical print ........... oh no it's not . All of
these scenes were intact for years on video and t.v. For some strange
reason Warners have issued the American theatrical version without even
bothering to look for the uncut print .
To say I'm annoyed is an understatement :furious:

I agree Dave , even with the cuts the dvd is terrific .
It's just so annoying that they did'nt bother to get an uncut print .
It's not as if it's hard to come by as I have it on Warner Video and
from a taped tv broadcast .
